The State of Alabama has a large extension of master´s degree programs for student who want to specialize in a specific field of study.  There are several reasons as to why get a master´s degree, one of them is to specialize in the area that one is passionate about.  The following is a list of some of the universities that offer masters degree programs in Alabama.

The University of Alabama

The University of Alabama´s college of Education offers master´s degree programs in counselor education (which covers several counseling areas), educational leadership, higher education administration, educational psychology, and several others within the field of higher and special education.  It offers a total of eleven master’s degrees*.  The accrediting agency that approves The University of Alabama is the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Troy University

The Master´s Degree Program offers a total of 14 opportunities of specialization.  They include an Education Specialist which in turn comprises an Ed.S Instructional Leadership and Ed.S Teacher Leader*.  The other master´s programs include business administration, criminal justice, adult education, environmental and biological sciences, human resource management, international relations, science in management, public administration, sport and fitness management, strategic communication, and master of taxation.  The Masters of Science degrees in the fields of community counseling and School counseling are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).  The Master in Rehabilitation Counseling is accredited by CORE and the Teacher Education Unit is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) *.

Auburn University

Auburn University offers four major groups of master´s degree and these are:  Master of Arts, which includes communication, English, history, sociology, and Spanish.  The Master of Science includes almost all the fields of scientific knowledge, from aerospace engineering to special education and sociology.  There is a Second Master´s Degree for any previous master´s degree. Finally, a Special or Professional Master´s Degree covers a large list of programs that include engineering, mathematics, biology, and technical careers.  The Masters of Science are accredited by the CACREP.  The Alabama State Board of Education approves the master´s degree program in school counseling*.

University of Alabama at Birmingham

University of Alabama at Birmingham is one of the top 20 institutions receiving federal research funding*.  It's graduate school offers master´s degrees in 50 areas that span across the disciplines of anthropology, chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, history, biomedical sciences, business, dentistry, education, engineering, among several others. Each program is accredited by its corresponding accreditation committee. The Science in Health Administration, for example, is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. 

University of South Alabama

This public research university offers many master´s degree programs through the College of Arts and Science, Mitchell College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Education, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, School of Computing, and Interdisciplinary Graduate Program*.    University of South Alabama is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
